Intro to SKRUM... The Beginning

SKRUM...

About SKRUM:

SKRUM are a charity that strives for the education of the new generation of South Africa about AIDS and other sexual health. Alongside with this by playing Rugby SKRUM aim to develop the children’s personalities and life skills. They are travelling round to schools in and around Swaziland and South Africa teaching and coaching rugby to the pupils, as well as aids awareness. The tag line 'pushing for a better future' and 'pass the ball not the virus' show the aim of the charity and what they are trying to accomplish. Skrum visits 6 schools a week with 60 children in each. Activities such as 'mini tournaments' are set up for the children to really enjoy themselves as a team and stand out as individuals. By educating these children it will give them hope and the chance to make a choice on how their future will pan out. They aim to make every child aware and educated in sexual education and to have fun through the sport Rugby.

How I heard about SKRUM...

An email was sent round to all the tutors of the sixth form students in Tavistock College. I have played rugby for 5 years now and have enjoyed it so much and it has been a huge contribution to making me who I am today. The chairman at my local rugby club (Nigel Larcombe-Williams) at the time contacted me and my mother and asked if I was interested in the programme. I was VERY interested and that is when my SKRUM experience started. After this I was invited to meet Michael and Linda Collinson (the founders of SKRUM) and there passion and drive for the charity really inspired me to get involved. SKRUM family I would becoming a part of would not just be the team I was working with but it would also be the children, teachers and everyone I would meet while out in Swaziland and I could not wait to be a part of it.

I am now all booked with flights and jabs are done so all I have to do not is wait until the 15th of September to fly out and start my SKRUM experience and I cannot wait.
